You are what you eat... or are you?

It's a NEW DAY, Reader!

You are what you eat.

We've all heard that phrase... but is it true?

In some ways, yes, because our bodies get their building blocks from the food we eat.

Amino acids from protein, fatty acids from fats, vitamins, and minerals are all part of our physical structure.

Bones, muscles, brain, heart, blood, all of it - made of and made by nutrients.

Even our nerve impulses are mineral-dependent!

But in other ways, it is not true.

For one, there are some things in our bodies that did not get there because we ate them (at least not on purpose):

  • heavy metals from polluted air, vaccinations, and even make-up
  • mold spores from living or working in a damp environment
  • microplastics from cutting boards, microwaving in plastic containers, and using disposable plates and cups
  • toxins from pesticide and drug residue in drinking water
  • uncountable chemicals from water bottles, thermal paper receipts, hygiene products, etc.

And secondly, we often struggle to absorb and use all the good things we DO eat:

  • low stomach acid can inhibit proteins from being fully broken down into individual amino acids
  • weak digestive enzymes can mean carbohydrates can make it into the small and large intestines where they can cause bloating and gas
  • one insufficient nutrient can keep others from being absorbed or utilized
  • leaky gut - too-large spaces between cells of the intestinal walls - can allow tiny food particles to enter the blood stream where they don't belong instead of continuing on through the digestive system properly

I was watching a webinar from Transformation™ Enzyme Corporation the other day and Amy, the presenter, said something that goes deeper and makes much more sense than simply "you are what you eat." She said,

"You are what you digest, assimilate, and fail to eliminate."

If you aren't digesting food properly, you aren't getting all the nutrition out of it.

If you don't have the full compliment of nutrients your body needs, you aren't going to be able to use at least some of the ones you do digest.

If you can't get rid of the toxins and other damaging compounds that come in along with our food, from other avenues, and even ones our own bodies create, those will stick around, compound, and create problems.

And these toxins? They require even more nutrients to detoxify them and the fix all the damage they are causing.

It's this vicious cycle that keeps us feeling run down and dealing with

  • brain fog
  • roller-coaster hormones
  • stubborn weight
  • digestive chaos
  • allergies, and
  • skin we want to hide from the world

For all the complexities of the human body, for all the symptoms we can list from A to Z and back again a dozen times...

What if focusing on digestive health was the way to address all of it?

Could it be that simple?

I think it can be that simple, and I'm really excited about a new tool I'm going to start using with my clients to help them get better results and quicker results because we're addressing digestive health, supporting nutrient absorption and assimilation, and assisting in the breakdown and elimination of toxins right from the start.

Do any of those symptoms above sound like stuff you're dealing with? Or maybe a friend or family member immediately came to mind (forward this to them).

You could be one of my first clients to use this new tool!

I'll be writing more about it in the weeks to come, but if you're interested in learning more NOW or getting started ASAP, reply back and we'll set up a 30-minute chat to make sure this is a good fit for you.

With Hope for your Health and Healing,

Valerie

It's a NEW DAY, Reader! You may have noticed I've been talking a lot about digestion lately. As a practitioner who sees people as WHOLE, not just organs, systems, and symptoms, I think about digestion quite differently than many other health professionals We have medical specialists who focus only on the digestive system - gastroenterologists - and some of them even get more specialized and focus on just one area of that system. When we need a surgeon, these are the people we want holding the...

It's a NEW DAY, Reader! Imagine these scenarios with me for a moment... You want to plant some flowers and you need to know more about what kinds will grow well in your yard... but you don't want to bother the workers at the garden center, so you just continue to cultivate dandelions the rest of your life. You want to buy a house and you need a loan... but you don't want to bother the loan officer at the bank, so you just continue renting that dumpy apartment for the rest of your life. You...

It's a NEW DAY, Reader! A dear friend and fellow subscriber wrote me an email a couple weeks ago and mentioned that her little ones (ages 1 and 5) were under the weather. She had gone to the store and bought them all the regular foods and beverages you give sick kids. Then she realized that most of that stuff was actually junk food, full of sugar and void of any real nutrition 😨 Smart mama! She then asked me what kinds of foods I would recommend for sick kids... which I thought was a perfect...
