It's a NEW DAY, Reader! Recently I attended the funeral of an elderly gentleman in our church. At the time of his passing, he was just shy of celebrating 45 years of sobriety. Anyone who struggles with an addiction likely has some powerful thoughts that come up hearing about this. Powerfully positive thoughts like: If he can do it, so can I! Yes! I'm on my way to that goal, too! Or maybe they're powerfully negative thoughts like: No way, I could never be that strong. How can anyone possibly resist temptation for that long? As I reflect on this man's sobriety journey, here are some of my own thoughts... He had a Day 1. A journey that lasted nearly 45 years began with a Day 1. Then a Day 2, and then Day 3. Every day built on the previous one. For somewhere near 17,775 days. He didn't know how it would turn out. On that first day, he had no idea how long the sobriety would last. A day? A week? A month? A year? He'd tried it before and relapsed every time. But he knew what was good for his body, mind, soul and family, and he kept chasing it. He didn't let past failures or uncertainty of success stop him from trying again. He could have decided that if he wasn't sure he could do it perfectly, he wouldn't try at all. That would have been so easy. How many times do I successfully convince myself of that exact thing about something not nearly as challenging as sobriety? He didn't do it alone. He attended AA meetings several times a week, even after decades of sobriety. His wife and family stood beside him. But as important as those support systems were to him, he was not able to achieve sobriety without the help of his Lord Jesus Christ, knowing that with God all things are possible. He was never shy about sharing where he got the strength to stay sober. So, why am I sharing this with you today? The simplest reason is just because it was on my mind and someone may need to hear it. When I sit down to write an email, I never know who needs to hear the words I'm typing. Sometimes it may even be just me 😁 The other reason I'm sharing this story and my thoughts is because no matter what journey you're on, or contemplating going on, there are a lot of similarities. Each journey has a first day. For a health journey, it may be the first day of going out for a walk after dinner, or the first day of checking in with your body before taking a second helping. And each day builds on the previous one. You don't know exactly how it's going to turn out. You have goals, like lowering your blood sugar or getting through the day without needing a nap, but ultimately you don't know exactly what's going to happen or how long it will take to reach your goal. You don't have to let past "failures" or uncertainty of success stop you from trying again. I put quotations around the word failure because the only true ways to fail are to quit and to ignore the lessons your past experiences have to teach you. If you're learning you can't truly fail. You don't have to do it alone. The current food and health culture we live in make it so very difficult to achieve authentic health that is deeply rooted from the inside out. Every time you turn around someone is making a claim about a food, fitness, or medication trend that is either "out" or "in." And then next week you hear the opposite. I can help you cut through all this noise about food and health and figure out what foods and lifestyle strategies are going to make the biggest, most positive - and fastest! - impacts on your health. Today could be your Day 1! Most of my clients start seeing significant changes in a matter of weeks, and I continue to help them build and refine their nutrition and lifestyle practices into established routines that work easily with their everyday life and long-term health goals. Whether you're dreaming about more energy, better sleep, clearer skin, calmer digestion, weight loss - or all of the above - I can help you turn those dreams into reality. The sooner you claim your Day 1, the sooner you'll be on your way to Day 10, 30, 100, 365, and beyond. If you're ready to start seeing positive changes in your health this month, reply "DAY 1" to this email and we will set up a time for a free exploratory call! I don’t believe anyone should have to DIY their own health, but too often the conventional health models are ready to give up before we are! I love helping people discover the foods and holistic lifestyle practices that fit their unique needs and goals so they can STOP MANAGING SYMPTOMS and START CREATING HEALTH!
Reader, you were made for wellness! I know that may seem hard to believe, especially if you're experiencing health challenges and have spent too much time and energy searching for answers and real, personal support that will truly help you regain your health instead of just managing symptoms. I can assure you, though, there is hope for your health and healing! The human body was created with dozens - maybe even hundreds - of self-healing mechanisms and pathways! But they need the right tools...
It's a NEW DAY, Reader! Years ago, my son struggled with chronic joint pain and digestive chaos (to put it kindly). We spent seven long years looking for answers. Doctors. Tests. Medications. And then more of the same. We crossed countries and we crossed oceans looking for help. Everyone meant well and gave their best 'standard of care' recommendations, but no one could explain why he he was in pain and no one could fix it. As a parent, it broke my heart to see him suffering. I felt like I...
It's a NEW DAY, Reader! You may have noticed I've been talking a lot about digestion lately. As a practitioner who sees people as WHOLE, not just organs, systems, and symptoms, I think about digestion quite differently than many other health professionals We have medical specialists who focus only on the digestive system - gastroenterologists - and some of them even get more specialized and focus on just one area of that system. When we need a surgeon, these are the people we want holding the...
